Grainger 40' Cruising Catamaran

Design Concept

The Barefoot Series of sports cruising catamarans, designed by Grainger Designs, incorporates distinctive modern styling and dynamic performance.

Fiona and Trevor Gill had been looking at catamarans for about 12 months before deciding on the Barefoot 40.  "We are definitely cruisers and not racers, and we wanted a boat that would be capable of full-filling any task asked of it, coastal sailing or crossing oceans.

Not willing to have our dream take years to build, we decided that we needed to consider one of the many kits available.

So for us, the Barefoot 40 ticked all the boxes."

Construction

The structural material pack for the Barefoot Series is a combination of custom molded hull bottoms and a CNC routed component pack of DuFLEX® Composite Panels and epoxy resin products supplied by ATL Composites.

The hull bottoms were constructed for Trevor by Julian Griffiths, Noosa Marine, with AIREX® C70.75 structural foam, reinforced with medium weight multiaxial E-fibreglass and laminated  with KINETIX® R246TX Thixotropic resin and H160 Medium Laminating hardener.    "By having the hulls built for us by Julian Griffiths, Noosa Marine, it meant we were off to a flying start for a fast build."
