Jutson 59' Power Catamaran

Design Concept

John McKay of Vision Yachts Pty Ltd, commissioned Scott Jutson to design a 59' luxury power cat to meet DNV High Speed Light Craft Code and AS4132: Survey category USL2C.

John was keen to reduce labour and keep wastage to a minimum by using DuFLEX Composite panels wherever possible.

Construction

To achieve the compound shape of the hulls below the waterline, ATL Composites recommended the construction of a solid male mold using Duratec 174-002 White Surface Primer to prepare the surface of the mold, followed by Duratec 1794-005 VE Primer as an in-mold finish.  The hull bottoms were cored with BALTEK SB.100 contoured balsa and laminated with KINETIX R246TX/H160 high performance epoxy, reinforced with 750grm warp triaxial E-fibreglass.  Laminates and cores were vacuumed with Airtech vacuum bagging consumables supplied by ATL.

BALTEK SB.50 select grade end grain balsa, laminated as per designers specification, was supplied to optimise weight and panel stiffness for the bulkheads.  Bulkheads for the Jutson 59 were 40 and 50mm thick with 2 and 3 layers of E-fibreglass reinforcements on each side. They were CNC-routed, from files supplied by Jutson Design, into kit form by ATL Composites.
